Manifesto

Finnish officials are currently censoring Internet websites under the excuse of restricting distribution of child pornography. The censorship is based on a secret black-list which is put together by the Police and enforced by the telecommuncation operators.

Censorship in prior is in breach with section 12 of the Finnish Constitution.[1] Current technical implementation of the censorship gives the Police authority that it should not have in a constitutional state if not under supervision by the court or law. So far, we have already witnessed several cases of misuse of the list.

The filtering does not prevent the abuse of children, not does it hinder the distribution of child pornography. Therefore, the law is useless and rather serves to hide the real issues. The Police itself has violated the law by censoring sites which contain no child pornography, including a Finnish website which critizises the Internet censorship in general.

We demand that:

  • Filtering of the Internet traffic must be stopped. It is useless, illegal and infringes upon the Freedom of Speech.
  • Police begin with concrete measures to close down the sites that actually contain child pornography.
